Clash of Realities - November 14-16, 2016

For the seventh time the Clash of Realities international research conference offered the opportunity for an interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue. Experts from the academy, science and research, economics, politics and the game industry discussed pressing questions concerning the artistic design, technological development, and social perception of digital games, as well as the spreading of games literacy.

The game aesthetics track featured a series of exciting game creators and their projects, this year´s Game Development Summit looked into the practice, theory and science behind the perfect game feel. Renowned experts from the industry and academia investigated aspects of virtual sensation, visual- and audio design, highlighting their individual and shared impact on the overall user experience.

Münchner Medientage 2016

Think the headline of this panel is readable ;-) - talking with Clemens Hochreiter and Arne Ludwig is always inspiring! Virtual Reality was a real buzz-topic here in Munich - like with so many other events on this planet.

Guess what we were talking about! I tried to address scenarios where Virtual reality becomes important in the making process of creative media, as well as in regard of products and services that will play a roll for this industry.

DIGILITY Cologne

DIGILITY is the first german fair/congress on virtual reality (sept 22+23 2016). I had the pleasure to be on two panels. First round in the morning with Robert Scoble (Upload VR), Dominic Eskofier (NAVIDIA) and Arne Ludwig (Headtrip) - moderation by Kimo Quaintance (IQ Gemini) - where we discussed the future of VR - what to come in the next 10 years.

Second round i was invited to battle with some investors as one of the closing scessions. The panelist were Martin Vesper (DigitalSTROM), Masaru Ohnogi  (Gumi Inc.) - moderated by Cindy Chin (CLC Advisors, LLC).

Visit to Boston

I was invited for a trip to Boston this September. After having Christoph Mücher (Director of Goethe Institut Boston) and several representatives from Bostons Game Dev and Academic scene at Cologne during this years Gamescom, i flew over together with Krystian Majewski from Cologne and some other German Indie-Developers.

Class of 2016

September 20, 2016 the new BA class started at CGL! Unbelievable - but this is already the 3rd vintage at our institute (and the second round since we started at the new site in Köln-Mülheim). Great people - i am happy to have them all on board!

Interactive Cologne Conference - Immersive Day

On the panel with With Arne Ludwig, Sven Haeberlein and the friendly guy from Deutsche Telekom (forgot his name). We adressed general aspects of VR in this round and tried to negotiate critical success parameters for the future of virtual reality... The scession was hosted by EDFVR during 2016 Cologne Interactive Festival.

Gamescom Congress

18.08.2016 - I hosted a panel on the current state of research-projects at German universities. Katharina Tillmans from CGL gave insights on our project "His2Go", Prof. Thomas Bremer showed several VR Projects from HTW Berlin, Katherina Emmerich fron University of Duisburg-Essen screened a Research on Social Player Experience and VR-RLX, Prof. Tilmann Kohlhaase gave demonstrated the VR research at Hochschule Darmstadt.

EYE Conference at the EU Parliament

I had the pleasure to be the host of two panels during the EYE Festival at the European Parliament in Strassbourg, France. The Picture above shows me at the "Stagnation or Innovation - Tomorrow’s World of Work" panel with former member of the EU Parliament Amelia Andersdotter, Carmen Schneidereit (CGL) and Leo Cervera (Head of Human Resources at the EDPS). Earlier that morning i also hosted  "Collapse or Success - New Ways for a Sustainable Europe" panel with Game Expert Simon Bachelier, EU Parliament MemberPeter Jahr and Eco -Activist Andreas Sieber. Interesting Discussions with the panelists and of course a great discursive audience!

Storytelling in VR - Republica 2016

We had a real Entrepreneur feeling during our panel at Republica 2016 in Berlin! The panelist were Astrid Kahmke (Head of First Movie Program - ‎i4c), author Hannes Wagner (Dome Festival Jena) und Janine Dittmann (Holodeck München).

Virtual Reality Braincamp

We had the pleasure to host the first meeting of EDFVR - the German Assosiation for Virtual Reality at CGL. Arround 40 participants discussed the central aims of the group during the meeting on the 3rd of april in Cologne.

GDC16 in San Francisco

This year a rainy San Francisco welcomed us after a quite relaxed flight with a brand new A380. Due to the weather conditions we had to skip the Reedwood-Trip the day after, explored the de Young Museum instead (wort a visit by the way). GDC was super-packed as usual, the summit days did not rock as last year. Lots of meetings and making contacts over the days, great fun and "vitamin b" as always...

Global Game Jam 2016

With the 2016 Global Game Jam we moved to our new location at Köln-Mülheim. About 120 Jammers worked during the 48 hours at our space and thx to CAMEO we were able to support the activists with food and drinks  of course REDBULL sponsored us again with piles of the healthy pink drink....
